PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The No. 12 Dartmouth women's squash team earned its first victory in the CSA National Team Championships on Saturday, defeating No. 11 Tufts 5-4.Â
The Big Green battled from start to finish, ending their match day with six full-count games.Â
Maria Clara Ramirez had the longest match of the morning, going back-and-forth for a little over an hour at No. 1. She won her first game, then fell behind as she lost the following two. Ramirez won her final two games 11-3 and 12-10 to clinch the match.Â
Ellie Clifford lost her first game at the second position before taking the lead with 12-10 and 11-5 wins. She dropped the following game before taking the match with an 11-5 win.Â
Kriti Muthu evened the score after losing her first game at the eighth position. She dropped the following game before winning the match with back-to-back 11-4 and 13-11 triumphs.Â
Nathalie Taylor won her first game 11-4 at the ninth position, then went back and forth with Tufts'Â Chloe Bergam until they found themselves with a full count. Taylor took control of the situation and won the final game 11-8 for the victory.Â
Similarly, Aubrey Lennon fought at the seventh position, forcing a fifth and final game with a full count. She wasn't able to seal the win, falling 6-11.Â
At the sixth position, Maya Shroff lost her first game but evened the count with an 11-8 win. She wasn't able to maintain the momentum, falling 11-9 and 11-4 to Tufts' Nieve Monderer.Â
The Big Green found themselves tied with Tufts after the Jumbos picked up wins at the fourth and fifth positions. The deciding factor was Chelsea Cho at the third position.Â
Cho fell early but picked up two straight wins (11-9 and 11-6) to gain control. Tufts'Â Riddhi Joshi won the fourth game 11-7 to force a fifth and final game. Cho clinched the match with an 11-6 triumph.Â
