
Five Dartmouth Coaches Earned National Awards In 2024-25

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth coaches earned five national awards throughout the 2024-25 academic year. Don Dobes of Dartmouth football was named the AFCA National Assistant Coach of the Year, Brayton Osgood earned National Nordic Coach of the Year from the USCSA, Megan McGill and Tenley Walsh earned Single Discipline Jumping Seat Coach of the Year and Single Discipline Coach of the Year respectively, and Wyatt Allen, the Betsy and Mark Gates 1959 Head Coach of Men's Heavyweight Rowing, was named IRCA National Coach of the Year from men's heavyweight rowing.
Dobes has been the Dartmouth defensive coordinator and linebackers since 2010 and has helped Dartmouth to five Ivy League championships including four in the last five seasons. In 2024, he led the Dartmouth defense to be the seventh-best rush defense in the FCS allowing just 105.7 yards per game. The Dartmouth defense allowed 20 or fewer points in five games while eight members of the defense earned All-Ivy honors.
Osgood led the Big Green to a successful 2024-25 season which saw an individual national championship and multiple breakout seasons. John Steel Hagenbuch captured his second straight NCAA National Championship by winning the classic race; he also finished second in the 20k Freestyle while earning First Team All-American honors. Luke Allan, Aidan Jacobus and Cooper Camp all had breakout seasons as Allan skied to a first team All-America finish in the classic race and second team All-America in the freestyle race. Jacobus turned in four top-10 finishes and was named EISA Nordic Rookie of the Year. Camp finished ninth in his first NCAA Championship 7.5k Classic race while being named second team All-America.
McGill was key member of the Dartmouth coaching staff that led the Big Green to their first NCEA Single Discipline National Championship in April. McGill wrapped up her third season with Dartmouth in 2024-25. Three members of the Big Green earned All-ECAC honors in fences while three riders earned All-America honors for fences. The Big Green finished the season with a 7-4 overall record, but were 7-2 against single discipline teams.
Walsh led Dartmouth to the program's first NCEA Single Discipline National Championship in her sixth season as the leader of the Big Green. Dartmouth earned its first No. 1 national ranking in November and stayed ranked in the top five for the rest of the season. The Big Green went into the ECAC Championships as the top seed, finishing second, and earned the fourth seed at the NCEA National Championship. Chloe Terestchenko, Cassidy Exner, Samantha Takacs and Elise Stephens all earned All-ECAC honors. Takacs was named ECAC Fences Rider of the Year and became the first member of the Big Green to earn first team All-America honors. Exner was named a second team All-American while Stephens was an honorable mention All-American.
Allen earned National Coach of the Years honors following his 10th year at the helm of the Big Green. 2024-25 was highlighted by the varsity eight finishing second at Eastern Sprints and third at the IRA National Championship. From the 2023-24 season to 2024-25, the Big Green varsity eight improved from 11th to third in the country. Along with the success of the varsity eight, the second and forth varsity eights earned bronze medals at Eastern Sprints. Earlier in the spring, the Big Green varsity eight won the Olympic Axe for the first time in its 21-year history by defeating Yale. Dartmouth also notched dual wins over Boston University, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Columbia and Northeastern.
Over the last two seasons, Dartmouth coaches and coaching staffs have combined for 13 coaching honors including seven conference honors and six national honors.
