Football Shifts Focus to Game Week Following Successful Camp

The Big Green welcome UNH on Saturday
HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth football team wrapped up its camp portion of practice this weekend, which featured just over three productive weeks of setting a foundation for the season ahead. The Big Green now enter opening week as they prepare to host in-state rival New Hampshire on Saturday in the Faculty and Staff Appreciation Game Presented by Ledyard Bank.
This past week began with, and was highlighted by, Dartmouth's second and final scrimmage of camp.
"I was happy," said Sammy McCorkle, Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach after the scrimmage. "I was impressed the way we came out here and played. The big thing was we wanted to make sure we got all the snaps for all the groups, and we hit exactly what we wanted."
A theme of camp as a whole has been a workmanlike and professional mentality towards every single day.
Another theme has been playing hard and fast, all while taking care of each other.
"I thought the energy was good," said McCorkle about Monday. "Guys were competitive, guys were locked in, and guys were focused. The offense had some good plays that we were looking for. And the defense did a heck of a job getting some three-and-outs and getting off the field on third downs."
As senior linebacker Zyion Freer-Brown said, "We went 1-0 today."
Last Monday's scrimmage also brought in referees for the first time of camp, which proved helpful.
"When you get the whole referee crew out here, those penalties that sometimes you don't see or call in a practice were being called today, so we have to clean that up," said McCorkle.
The rest of the week featured additional practices, and a walk through on Saturday to simulate gameday.
The Big Green have put in the work and it's almost time to put it on display. The season opener is set for this coming Saturday, Sept. 20 against New Hampshire, with opening kickoff set for 1 p.m. The Ivy League opener is two weeks later, on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Penn.
