Big Green in Strong Position With One Week Left of Camp

Scrimmage #1 is in the books, with the second on Monday
HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth football team continues to make strong progress this preseason, with one week of camp remaining before classes start and the Big Green shift their focus to preparing for their season opener against New Hampshire. This past week has featured plenty of energy and consistency, which started on day one and has carried forward.
"We went indoors [on Saturday] and thought the energy level was really good," said Sammy McCorkle, Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach. "Our guys have done a really good job of maintaining that energy throughout the whole practice, no matter the setting. Once again, guys are playing hard, playing fast, competing against each other and taking care of each other."
A goal of preseason has been to build depth, which is valuable for any successful team. That has happened through the reps of camp.
"You're seeing some of the twos, guys who were needing to step up, are starting to play with some confidence and having a better idea of what they're doing — playing more physically and playing more sure," said McCorkle. "It's exciting to see that happen."
This past week featured the first scrimmage of camp, on Thursday. The Big Green hit the practice field on Saturday and Sunday ahead of the second and final scrimmage of camp this Monday afternoon inside Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field.
Dartmouth opens its season by hosting in-state rival UNH on Saturday, Sept. 20. The Ivy League opener is two weeks later, on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Penn.
