HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth women's tennis hosted Army on Saturday, January 17, opening its spring season with a 5-2 win over the Black Knights.
The Big Green won two of their three doubles matches.
Sam Grosjean and
Alexandra Orlins earned the 6-1 win at second doubles, followed by
Elise Wong and
Brooke Hess with a 6-2 win at the third position to clinch the doubles point. Juniors
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore were back for their first match of the season at first doubles, falling 7-6, 9-7 in the tiebreaker.
Grosjean continued to impress in singles play, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the sixth spot, the first singles match to finish.
Lauren Han played fourth singles and was the second match to finish, falling 6-0, 6-2.
At third singles Orlins collected her second win of the day, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-3.
In her first appearance of the season,
Caroline Lemcke earned the 6-1, 6-3 victory at fifth singles, clinching the match win for the Big Green.
Despite losing her doubles match, Moore came back to win her singles match at the second position, 6-3, 6-2.
The final singles match to conclude was first singles. Capuano won the first set, earning the 6-3 victory. She fell in the second set, 7-5, before dropping the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-8.
Dartmouth is back in action on Monday, January 19, hosting the Harvard Crimson at Boss Tennis Center for a scrimmage. The Big Green will be back to regular season play on Friday, January 23, hosting the Boston College Eagles. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
