Venkatesan and Liu Named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week

HANOVER, N.H.—Callan Venkatesan of Dartmouth men's squash and Xiang Xiang Liu of Dartmouth women's squash have been named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes – one male athlete or team, one female athlete or team– as Athletes of the Week.

Callan Venkatesan, Junior, San Francisco, Calif., Men's Squash

Callan Venkatesan went 3-0 for the Big Green at the CSA National Team Championship over the weekend. He opened the tournament with a 3-2 win against Princeton in the first match of the weekend. He trailed 2-1 after three games but responded with back to back wins to take the match. On Friday against Williams he won in five games to improve to 2-0 after trailing after three games. The junior closed out the season with a sweep against Cornell, he won the first game 13-11 and then won games two and three 11-6.

Xiang Xiang Liu, First-Year, Shanghai, China, Women's Squash

Xiang Xiang Liu went 2-1 on the weekend with wins over Amherst and Drexel. On Friday against Williams she won the opening game with a 11-9 win and then won the second game 11-2. She closed out the second position match with an 11-7 win in the third game. In the final match of the season she won 3-1. She fell 11-9 in the first game and then won the second game 11-6. She closed out the match with 11-9 and 11-8 wins.
