HANOVER, N.H.—Alexandra Orlins of Dartmouth women's tennis and Leo Pade of men's tennis have been named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week following outstanding performances on the court.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes – one male athlete or team, one female athlete or team– as Athletes of the Week.
Alexandra Orlins, Fy., Cheshire, Conn., Women's Tennis
First-year Alexandra Orlins impressed last weekend for the Big Green, helping Dartmouth snap a three-match losing skid against Penn. She posted a 3-1 overall record on the weekend, including winning both her doubles matches.
At second doubles, alongside Sam Grosjean, Orlins defeated Penn 6-3 before clinching the doubles point against Princeton, 6-3. In singles play, Orlins went 1-1. She clinched the overall match victory over the Quakers with a three-set win at third singles. She dropped the first set 6-4 before coming back to win 6-1, 6-4.
Leo Pade, Sophomore, Muenchen, Germany, Men's Tennis
Leo Pade played a pivotal role in Dartmouth's 2-0 start to Ivy League play, clinching victories against Penn and Princeton during the Big Green's weekend sweep. Against Penn, Pade secured the match with a comeback win, rallying from a set down to defeat his opponent, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Pade once again delivered in the deciding moment against Princeton, battling into a third-set tiebreak, making an incredible comeback after trailing 1-5 and facing four match points. Pade fought back to win the tiebreak 10-8, clinching Dartmouth's viceroy and completing a weekend where he secured the deciding point in both matches.
