At NCAAs
The team has qualified for the NCAA Championships an Ivy-League record 19 times. (1975, 1976, 1980, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2013, 2016) The 1986 and 1987 squads each finished second at the NCAA meet, the best results ever for an Ivy League team.
Traditions
- Trip to the Grant - During preseason the team travels to the Second College Grant in northern New Hampshire for several days of training, including the infamous Hell Gate tempo run.
- Intrasquad meet - the losers once had to.... Well, that tradition has been interrupted in the past few years, with good reason.
- Big Green Tent at Championship Events - parents, alumni, friends, and teammates gather to cheer the team and have plenty to eat and drink after the meet.
- Singing "Men of Dartmouth" after Heps victory.
- Post-Heps warhorse - words wouldn't do it justice.
- Tom Dent Dinner - The men and women come together for dinner, skits, and other merriment at the Tom Dent Cabin.
- Winning - the most important tradition at Dartmouth; the sweet smell of success is quite familiar to the Big Green.
