At the NCAA Championships
The team has qualified for the NCAA championships on 13 occasions, the most in Ivy League history. (1988, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018). The 1996 (5th) and 1997 (4th) squads each finished in the top five at the NCAA meet.
In 2013, senior Abbey D'Agostino '14 became the first Ivy League student-athlete ever on either the men's or women's side to claim an individual NCAA Cross Country National Championship. It was her then-record-setting fifth individual national title, the most ever by an Ivy League athlete.
Traditions
- Preseason Trip - Several days of team bonding, goal-setting, and training in an out-of-the-way location. Recent trips have visited the Maine coast and the Second College Grant
- Baker Tower run - before Heps, the team runs through Baker/Berry Library and also stops by the President's House to invite him to attend the meet on the following day.
- Big Green Tent at Championship Events - parents, alumni, friends, and teammates gather to cheer the team and have plenty to eat and drink after the meet.
- Post-Heps warhorse - words wouldn't do it justice.
- Tom Dent Dinner - The men and women come together for dinner, skits, and other merriment at the Tom Dent Cabin.
- Winning - the most important tradition at Dartmouth; the sweet smell of success is quite familiar to the Big Green.
