Dartmouth field hockey coach
Mark Egner announced the addition of Jess Jecko to his staff in June 2021.
Â
A former national champion, All-ACC and NCAA All-Tournament goalkeeper for Syracuse from 2012-15, Jecko has spent the last four years working up the coaching ranks at various stops across the country. After starting out with her alma mater in 2016, she has gone on to work with numerous clubs, the Irish National Team (2018) and, most recently, at Duke.
Â
"Jess is going to be a great fit for our program here at Dartmouth," Egner said. "She's an incredible person with bundles of energy. Her experience in the USWNT means that she brings an expertise to the role that will really benefit our defensive unit. I've no doubt that she will settle in quickly and become an invaluable member of our staff."
Â
As a goalkeeper with the Orange, she posted a 53-11 career record in three seasons as the starter. She finished her collegiate career with 10 shutouts, a .716 save percentage and a 1.31 goals against average in 68 games played. As a senior, she ranked second nationally and led the ACC in win percentage (.955).
Â
It was in that senior season that Jecko helped lead the Orange to the 2015 NCAA National Championship, defeating four ranked opponents in the tournament, including No. 3 UConn and No. 1 North Carolina in the Final Four. It marked not only the program's first national title, but also the first-ever national championship for a women's team at Syracuse. She finished the season with a 21-1 mark and was the goalkeeper of record in every one of her team's games.
Since her college days, Jecko has been a member of the US Women's National Team, competing and training internationally. In that time, she has been a standout performer for Team USA, earning Player of the Match honors against Australia in 2019 and Queen of the Match recognition vs. Korea in 2018 at the Four Nations Women's Ibaraki International Tournament.
She also suited up for Old Alexandra Hockey Club in Ireland from 2017 to 2018 as the goalie for the Division One team and helping them to a promotion to the EYHL.
As a coach, Jecko has gained experience with Duke as a volunteer last season, working to prepare practices, analyzing and breaking down video, scouting opponents and assisting with conditioning. With the Irish National Team, she served as a goalie coach with the U16 squad, while also making talent evaluations during roster assessments.
