Rebecca McElvain '19 was hired as an assistant coach, returning to her alma mater for the 2020-21 season. McElvain served as an assistant coach through the 2024-25 season and was elevated to interim head coach at the end of the season. She will remain in the interim head coach role through 2025-26, her sixth season on staff.
McElvain led the Big Green as captain as a senior and was named an All-American Crew in each of her last two seasons while receiving honorable mention as a freshman. She was also All-NEISA Crew First Team twice and Second Team in her first two years. Prior to Dartmouth, she was a seven-time national champion at the high school level in various types of boats and was named the 2015 San Diego Area Yacht Clubs Woman Sailor of the Year. She has also served as a sailing instructor at the San Diego Yacht Club off and on since 2014.
During her second season as a part of the coaching staff, the Big Green placed fourth overall at the Open Fleet Race National Championship, their best finish since 2019, the team that McElvain was on. The Big Green continued their success on the national stage the following season, placing third overall at the Women's and Open Fleet Race National Championship. McElvain had two sailors, Maddie Hawkins and Reese Bragg, win the A Division in the Women's National Championship.
