Dartmouth softball head coach Shannon Doepking has named Bianca Mejia an assistant coach for the 2015 season.
A former National Pro Fastpitch Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time Northeast Conference Player of the Year, Mejia spent the past season at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
“I am very excited to add Bianca to our coaching staff. She brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and competitiveness to our program,” Doepking said. “Her love for the game will undoubtedly make our team and program better. She has competed at the highest level and knows what it takes to win.”
In 2014, Mejia helped guide the Bulldogs to their first Northeast Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance en route to being named the NEC Coaching Staff of the Year. The 32 wins in 2014 mark a Division I program record.
A 2011 graduate from fellow Northeast Conference member Long Island University, Mejia brings a wealth of softball knowledge and experience to the Big Green bench, both as a coach and a player. As a standout on the diamond for the Blackbirds, Mejia’s 2009 and 2010 NEC Player of the Year awards helped lead her team to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Regionals, securing a Third Team All-America (2009) selection in the process. After ending her illustrious collegiate career, Mejia was drafted by the National Pro Fastpitch Diamonds (Orlando, Fl.) in 2011 and was named the NPF Defensive Player of the Year during her rookie campaign.
Her coaching career began in 2012 when she spent a season as the Director of Softball Operations and Volunteer Assistant Coach at Cal State Northridge. As the Director of Ops, Mejia was responsible for the team's travel arrangements, video analysis and recruiting duties, as well as implementing extensive practice plans.
A Sylmar, California native, Bianca Mejia graduated from LIU Brooklyn with a degree in Health Science.
