Whitney Douthett was chosen unanimously to the All-Ivy League first team for the second year in a row after scoring 33 goals and dishing out 34 assists while earning Dartmouth's attack MVP award as a junior. Switched to midfield after the team's slow start, she spearheaded the turnaround that brought the Big Green all the way to the national championship game and ended up leading the team in scoring by a whopping 20 points. She topped the squad with 63 ground balls and 53 draw controls and was tied for the lead with three gamewinning goals. She popped in four goals and had two assists in the semifinal win over Notre Dame. Against Princeton in the regular-season showdown she had four goals and five assists for nine points. She also had four goals in the opener against Syracuse. A second-team All-American, she begins her final year 10th all-time on the Dartmouth list with 139 career points. As a sophomore she posted 31 goals and 31 assists for 62 points, second on the team. She was the first player in program history to top the 30 mark in both categories and went on to earn unanimous first team All-Ivy recognition. With 59 ground balls during the 2005 campaign, she was ranked 18th nationally, averaging 3.11 per game before picking up 63 ground balls last season. During the fall, she is a back for the Dartmouth varsity soccer team. A true athlete with great awareness on the field, Whitney’s first step will get her ahead of most defenders in the eight-meter. Whitney racked up numerous awards at Peddie, including team MVP twice, Trenton Times' player of the year as a senior and All-State. She was named the NJISAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2003. A three-sport captain, Whitney also led the basketball team and earned a total of 12 varsity letters.
Whitney is majoring in government with a concentration in international relations.
WHAT THE COACHES SAY ABOUT WHITNEY:
“Whitney has extraordinary game sense. She sees the field well and has the ability to know where to pass the ball even before she gets it. She plays a significant role at both ends of the field with her fight and hustle. She's a leader on and off the field who makes everyone around her better.”
WHITNEY DOUTHETT STICK CHECK
I am motivated and inspired by: My teammates inspire me. Knowing that each one of them is training as hard as they can, that they are doing that one last sprint or that one last set of lifting inspires me to work harder. That is what being a teammate means.
When I grow up, I want to: Be CEO of ESPN/ABC Sports
My favorite musical group is: Counting Crows or The Format
My most memorable lacrosse experience was: Playing in the national championship in Boston. I remember watching the more than 6,000 people present, seeing the enormous banners with, "We Know," written on them, and looking at each of my teammates knowing how hard we had worked to get there. It was a moment I'll never forget.
What I like most about the coaching staff is: That they truly care about each player about on and off the field. They spend countless hours watching video, recruiting, scouting and worrying because they genuinely care and want the best for this team.
