Kevin Maureen Campbell will enter her fourth season leading Dartmouth volleyball in 2026, continuing a rebuild she began when she joined the program in June 2023. Across her first three seasons, Campbell has built a foundation centered on academic achievement, team culture, and steady competitive growth, work reflected both on the court and in the classroom.
In her third season, in 2025, the Big Green finished 7-17 overall and 4-10 in the Ivy League, good for seventh place, and showed continued progress within the conference, improving on the previous year's Ivy win total with victories over Columbia twice, Cornell, and Penn. Outside of conference play, Dartmouth defeated Long Island University and Sacred Heart University at the Sacred Heart Invitational and beat Bryant University at home on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025. Sophia Gagnepain anchored the offense, leading the team in sets played (84), assists (428), and assists per set (5.10), while senior Kauany Gutz paced Dartmouth in kills, with 242 on the season and a 3.0 kills-per-set average, and Elle McCreery led the team defensively with 42 total blocks. Gutz's season culminated in Second Team All-Ivy recognition, and she also earned Academic All-Ivy honors, one of three Big Green student-athletes, alongside Maddie LaFata and Gagnepain, recognized by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) with Academic All-District honors for their combined success in the classroom and in competition.
Campbell's second season, in 2024, marked continued growth for the program, as the Big Green improved their overall win total from the year before, finishing 10-14 with a 3-11 mark in the Ivy League. The season included three-set sweeps over Delaware State University, Penn, and Columbia (twice), along with a 5-0 run through the Dartmouth Invitational, with wins over Providence College, Quinnipiac University, and Siena College. Ivy League play featured a season sweep of Columbia, with both matches won 3-0, and a 3-0 sweep of Penn at home. Gutz earned Ivy League honorable mention recognition for her play, and four Big Green student-athletes, Piper Stevens, LaFata, Emma Engstrom, and Gutz, earned CSC Academic All-District honors, with Stevens also receiving Academic All-Ivy recognition.
In her first season, in 2023, Campbell guided the Big Green to a 9-14 overall record and a 6-8 mark in the Ivy League, an encouraging start that included season sweeps of Cornell, Columbia, and Penn during conference play. Campbell earned her first win at Dartmouth in dramatic fashion, a five-set victory over Seton Hall in the opening match of the Dartmouth Invitational. Senior Amelia Gibbs closed out her Dartmouth career that season with the best career hitting percentage in program history and earned All-Ivy honorable mention recognition, a fitting capstone to her time as a student-athlete.
Campbell arrived at Dartmouth as just the fourth head coach in program history, following three seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she began as an assistant coach and was later elevated to interim head coach for the 2022 season. The 1995 University of Nebraska Omaha graduate helped guide VCU to an 18-12 overall record and a 13-2 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2021, a season in which two Rams earned first team all-conference honors. As interim head coach in 2022, Campbell led VCU to a 14-17 (9-9) record while the Rams ranked among the top 20 programs nationally in digs per set, leading the Atlantic 10 in that category.
Before VCU, Campbell spent four seasons at North Carolina State University (NC State), from 2016 to 2019, and helped guide the Wolfpack to a historic 2017 campaign that featured a program-best 15 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) wins and the program's first-ever National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament victory. NC State earned 11 All-ACC selections, including three first team honorees, during Campbell's tenure, and she was promoted to associate head coach ahead of that 2017 season after serving as an assistant the year before. Coordinating the team's defense, the Wolfpack ranked among the top five ACC teams in digs per set in each of Campbell's four seasons there.
Campbell's coaching path also included two seasons as associate head coach at San Diego State University, from 2014 to 2015, and a season as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado in 2013, where she helped the Buffaloes reach the NCAA Tournament, and win a match there, for the first time since 2006. She spent five years building the program at the University of North Florida, leading the Ospreys from five wins as a Division II program in 2007 to 16 victories at the Division I level by 2011, her final season at the helm. North Florida earned its first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Tournament berth in 2010 under Campbell, and three Ospreys earned All-ASUN recognition during her tenure, including Paige Pridgeon, the conference's 2009 Freshman of the Year, who went on to earn first team honors in 2011.
Earlier in her career, Campbell spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Penn State under legendary head coach Russ Rose, a five-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Coach of the Year honoree, beginning in 2005. The Nittany Lions won two Big Ten championships during that span, and Campbell coached four future Olympians, including AVCA Player of the Year honorees Nicole Fawcett and Megan Hodge. Her coaching journey also included stops at UNC Charlotte, from 2000 to 2004, Ohio University in 1999, and Winthrop University in 1998.
As a student-athlete at Omaha, Campbell recorded more than 1,000 career kills across four seasons and earned two All-North Central Conference honors, along with an AVCA All-North Central Region selection as a senior in 1994.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Campbell graduated from Omaha in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in history. She went on to earn a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of North Florida in 2012 and is earned her doctorate in educational leadership through VCU in 2024.
