Ed Walsh has been a member of the Dartmouth coaching staff for six seasons as a volunteer assistant coach. He works primarily with the Big Green goaltenders.
Walsh joined the staff after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach at UMass-Lowell. There he served as a systems analyst and goaltender coach. He was a member of the River Hawks in 1996 when they received the NCAA Division I Coaching Staff of the Year Award. During his tenure at UMass- Lowell, the team appeared in the Hockey East Championship six times and the NCAA quarterfinals twice.
Walsh is currently coaching with the USA Hockey New England program and also works with USA Hockey as a coach and lecturer. Previously, he had been the head coach of the Select-17 Team for the State of New Hampshire. Walsh has coached two goaltenders who have played in the NHL and a number of others playing professionally.
A native of Tewksbury, Mass., Walsh was a standout goaltender and was named the defensive player of the year and goaltender of the year. He was a member of Team Massachusetts that was crowned 1983 USA Champion.
Walsh attended Salem State College and suffered an injury following his freshman year that ended his playing career.
For the last 20 years, he has owned and operated the Ed Walsh Hockey Schools, which specialize in providing offensive/defensive training and goaltending training. Walsh and his wife, Joanne, have two sons, Alexander and Cameron, and reside in North Salem, N.H.
