NEW HEAD COACH AT DARTMOUTH
On March 30, 2026, Hadelman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation Mike Harrity named MacConnell the 29th head coach of the Dartmouth men's basketball team. MacConnell arrived in Hanover following one season (2025-26) as an assistant coach at Stanford under Kyle Smith, where the Cardinal posted their second straight 20-win season. Before Stanford, he spent 12 seasons at Princeton, the final nine as associate head coach, helping the Tigers to a 231-121 record and four Ivy League championships.

SWEET SIXTEEN RUN
As Princeton's associate head coach, MacConnell helped lead the Tigers to the Sweet Sixteen in 2022-23, becoming just the fourth No. 15 seed in history to do so. The Tigers defeated a pair of nationally ranked opponents (No. 8 Arizona & No. 23 Missouri), became the 11th No. 15 seed to beat a No. 2 seed after taking down Arizona 58-55 in the Round of 64, and earned the largest ever margin of victory for a No. 15 seed thanks to a 78-63 victory over Mizzou in the Round of 32.

WINNING WAYS
During his seven years as Princeton's associate head coach, the Tigers won three-straight Ivy titles, including two out of three outright, and four in seven years, posting a 231-121 overall record. Princeton became a mainstay in the postseason throughout MacConnell's tenure, making two NCAA Tournament and three NIT appearances.

HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE
MacConnell was named Dartmouth's head coach on March 30, 2026, his first full-time head-coaching position. Before that, he went 3-1 filling in as Princeton's acting head coach, picking up victories at Hofstra in 2023-24, at Columbia in 2021-22 and at Dartmouth in 2018-19.

AN ELITE RECRUITING CLASS AT STANFORD
While at Stanford, MacConnell served as the lead recruiter for Aziz Olajuwon, son of Naismith Hall of Fame member Hakeem Olajuwon. Olajuwon was a consensus four-star prospect, ranked as high as No. 40 by ESPN at the time of his signing and was the third-ranked player in the State of Texas. He was ranked No. 64 by 247 Sports and No. 69 by Rivals/On3. Olajuwon was part of one the top recruiting classes in the nation, with Stanford’s incoming lass ranked No. 12 nationally from 247 Sports and No. 16 in the country by ESPN.

SUCCESS AGAINST HIGH MAJORS
During his tenure at Princeton, the Tigers defeated ten high major opponents, the most of an Ivy program in that time. The victories include Rutgers (2024), Rutgers (2023), No. 8 Arizona (2023), No. 23 Missouri (2023), South Carolina (2021), Oregon State (2021), No. 17 Arizona State (2018), USC (2017), Penn State (2013) and Rutgers (2013).

RECRUITING AND DEVELOPING PROS
24 players have played professional basketball after being coached by MacConnell, including Tosan Evbuomwan, who played for the Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, Brooklyn Nets and New Yorks, along with Devin Cannady, who had a stint with the Orlando Magic in 2021 after being named NBA G League Finals MVP. Other pros to play under MacConnell include Ebuka Okorie, who was drafted 17th in the 2026 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Xaivian Lee, Matt Allocco, Keeshawn Kellman, Jacob O’Connell, Jaelin Llewellyn, Ethan Wright, Ryan Schwieger, Richmond Aririguzoh, Myles Stephens, Amir Bell, Spencer Weisz, Steven Cook, Hans Brase, Henry Caruso, Clay Wilson, Denton Koon, T.J. Bray, Jimmy Sherburne and Ian Hummer.

PERSONAL
MacConnell is married to Sarah (Samad) MacConnell, former Strength & Conditioning coach at Virginia Tech, Maryland and VMI. Sarah and Brett have two sons, Cooper, born in August 2022, and Paxton, born in October 2024. The family relocated to Hanover, New Hampshire. in 2026 when MacConnell was named Dartmouth's head coach. MacConnell's father, Kevin, is a career sports administrator, currently serving as Chief of Staff for Rutgers Football.
