Dartmouth Athletics is pleased to welcome Riley Fitzgerald as Associate Athletic Director of Peak Performance to the department, bringing nearly a decade of experience in athlete leadership development and sport psychology to the Big Green.
Fitzgerald arrives at Dartmouth after serving as Director of Athletic Leadership at the University of Connecticut from October 2021 to September 2026. There, he conceived, designed, and launched a four-year, cohort-based leadership institute spanning student-athletes' entire collegiate careers — a program built to proactively develop and support student-athlete leaders throughout their time at UConn.
His work encompassed the full range of leadership and mental performance development, including individual and team consultations, credit-bearing university coursework, and oversight of mental performance services across the athletic department — from individualized consultation and team-based offerings to coach education and referral systems. He also advised coaches, support staff, and administrators on player development and the design of high-performance environments.
Before UConn, Fitzgerald spent five years at Boston University, where he served as Sport Psychology Consultant (2016–2021) and Services Coordinator (2019–2021), while also teaching as a Lecturer (2016–2019) in sport psychology, health education, and organizational behavior. From 2018 to 2019, he additionally served as a Coach Educator for the Institute for Rowing Leadership.
Fitzgerald holds a B.S. in Psychology from Cal Poly and an Ed.M. in Counseling, with a specialization in Sport & Performance Psychology, from Boston University.
