The next generation of Big Green athletes is here and making their presence known. Freshman Karl-Oskar Pajus won the decathlon in his first outdoor Heps Championship for the men’s track and field team. Classmate Megan Hagge led the softball team to their fifth Ivy League series win of the year.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Megan Hagge, Fr.., Sanford, Fla., Pitcher, Softball
A native of Sanford, Florida, Megan Hagge saved some of her best work in the circle for the final weekend of the softball season. The 6-1 freshman was nigh untouchable against Cornell, helping the Big Green win their fifth Ivy League series of the year. Making just her fifth start of the season in the opener, she held the Big Red scoreless for six innings on six hits without a walk while fanning five enroute to a 2-0 victory, her third of the season. Then in the second game of the doubleheader, she returned to twirl four no-hit innings of relief, issuing only one walk to go with a pair of punchouts and retiring the last 11 batters she faced. Hagge finished the weekend with 10 shutout stanzas to her credit, lowering her ERA on the season a full run to 4.12 over 51.0 frames.
