Two Big Green pitchers gave it their all this week, both pitching complete game victories. Sophomore Rachel McCarroll led the softball team to a win over the Princeton Tigers. Meanwhile on the road Clark Gilmore went the distance against the Brown Bears.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Clark Gilmore, Jr., Redding, Conn, RHP, Baseball
Gilmore did the heavy lifting for the Big Green in their 2-1 victory over Brown in the final game of the series in Providence on Saturday, snapping the team’s losing streak. The junior right-hander went the distance on the mound — his first outing of longer than five frames — throwing 109 pitches and allowing just one unearned run on six hits without walking a batter while striking out five, matching a career high. He is the first Dartmouth pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game in four years and the first to win one in seven years. To top off his performance, he fielded consecutive plays behind his back to record outs in the second inning, one of which was featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day.
