Throughout the summer, DartmouthSports.com will be focusing on members of the Class of 2025 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers" presented by the Norwich Inn.
This installment focuses on Jenna Brown of the softball program.
DartmouthSports.com: What have you been doing during your sophomore summer?
Jenna Brown: During my sophomore summer, I went back home to do a consulting internship in Deloitte's Atlanta office. It's been great to see my parents, my two chocolate labs and my friends from high school! I also got the chance to head back up to Hanover for 4th of July. It was awesome to see everybody that was doing sophomore summer and the weather was great!
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
JB: My favorite place on campus is probably my friends Leila Hennessy and Lauren Messier's dorm room because it's a great space for our friend group to do homework and chill out after busy days.
DS: What was it in the recruiting process that sold you on Dartmouth?
JB: The part of Dartmouth that drew me in during the recruiting process was the sense of community. I'm very close to my family and I really wanted that sense of connection where I went to college. The softball team immediately felt like a second family, and I have loved getting the opportunity to meet the most creative, intelligent and down to earth people on Dartmouth's campus.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
JB: This is a cop out answer, but I would probably want to switch places with everybody in my class. Leila Hennessey is one of the smartest and hardworking people I know, and I'd love to understand biology, or science in general, half as much as she does. Rachel McCarroll is the strongest person I've ever met, and I'd love to be able to pitch 175 innings in a season with a smile on my face. She's also insane on aux, so I'd want that skill. Alaana Panu is a character to say the least. I would love to have her competitive edge mixed with her "free spirited" unique sense of self that makes everybody love when she's around!
DS: If you could play another sport at Dartmouth, what would it be and why?
JB: I would probably play lacrosse because I loved playing it in high school and I miss it.
DS: What has been your best on-field memory thus far in your Dartmouth career?
JB: I would probably say that my favorite on field memory was when it was raining when we played Princeton this year and our entire team started dancing on the field. It was so fun, and it was awesome to see everybody be so goofy together!
DS: If you could choose one moment in sports history that you could have been at, what moment would it be and why?
JB: I would have loved to be at Wrigley Field when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. A game seven win to break a curse like that, I would trade anything to have seen it!
DS: What would be your best advice to your 15-year-old self?
JB: I would tell my 15-year-old self that life is too short to do anything that you don't love with your whole heart.
