PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Ivy preseason favorite Penn showed why today at Franklin Field, blanking Dartmouth, 35-0, the first shutout absorbed by the Big Green since 1997 and the first by Penn since 1992.
The first three minutes of the game led off with a blocked field goal and two interceptions. Penn's second play of the day was a 54-yard run, setting up a field goal attempt that was blocked by Dartmouth's Clayton Smith. The Big Green's first drive ended with a fumble only three plays later.
Smith came up big again, recovering a Penn fumble on the Dartmouth 41-yard line at 12:13 of the first. But the Quakers answered on the next series with a two-yard reception by Dan Castles, his first of three touchdowns, capping off a 17-play drive.
