Dartmouth Men's Hockey Loses Heartbreaker to Colgate
Nov. 11, 2005
The Dartmouth men's hockey team made a late charge but it was not enough as the Big Green fell to Colgate tonight, 3-2, in front of 4,155 at Thompson Arena.
J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.) tallied with 10:00 left in the game but the Raiders held on and improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the ECAC Hockey League. With the loss the Big Green fall to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the ECACHL.
Colgate got on the board first when Jesse Winchester potted a short handed goal just 4:00 into the game. The Raiders went up 2-0 early in the second stanza when Dartmouth's Garret Overlock (Greenwich, Conn.) attempted to clear the puck but shot it directly to Tyler Burton who went up and over Big Green netminder,
Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.).
Dartmouth registered it's first goal at 6:54 in the second when
Grant Lewis (Upper Saint Clair, Pa.) dumped the puck down into the corner.
Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alt.) chipped it out to a waiting
David Jones (North Vancouer, B.C.) who shot the one-timer to get Dartmouth on the board.
With just minutes remaining in the second the Raiders scored another power play goal as Kyle Wilson went top-shelf on Devine.
Wyman got Dartmouth back in the game when
Mike Hartwick (Bedford, N.H.) blocked a shot out to Eric Przepiorka (Grosse Pointe, Mich.). Przepiorka fired on Colgate goalie, Mark Dekanich with the rebound landing in front of Wyman as the sophomore tallied his second goal of the season.
Dartmouth had plenty of opportunities on the night as the Big Green outshot the Raiders, 44-21 and had seven power play chances to Colgate's, three.
Devine (0-2) finished with 18 saves as the sophomore made his first career start for the Big Green. Dekanich (5-1-1) finished with 42 saves.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow night, squaring off with Cornell at 7:00 pm in another ECACHL and Ivy League matchup.
