HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth's women's hockey team fell to Clarkson this afternoon at Thompson Arena, 1-0. It was the first time in six years that Dartmouth had been shut out in two consecutive games.
Clarkson (9-2-1, 4-0-0 ECACHL) scored the game's lone goal at 13:29 of the first period. After senior Kate Lane (Wingham, Ont.) saved the initial shot by Marie-Jo Gaudet, the rebound came out to Kimberly McKenney in the high slot. She shot the puck on net, where it sneaked between a screened Lane and the right post.
From there, it was all defense and goaltending. Dartmouth (3-3-0, 1-3-0 ECACHL) was able to kill off two different five-on-three power plays for the Golden Knights and finished a perfect 6-for-6 on the night. Unfortunately, Clarkson was also perfect on the penalty kill, forcing the Big Green to go 0-for-5 on the power play.
Dartmouth had one last chance following a timeout with 9.7 seconds remaining in the third and an offensive zone faceoff. With an extra attacker on the ice, the Big Green ran a set play after winning the draw. Junior Caroline Ethier (Matagami, Que.) was alone in front of the net, but the cross-ice pass failed to connect and time expired.
Lane once again took a hard-luck loss after stopping 20-of-21 shots for the game. The last time the Big Green was shutout in consecutive games was in the spring of 1999, when the team had a scoreless tie at Northeastern before losing to Brown at home, 4-0. Dartmouth had never before been shutout in consecutive home games.
The Big Green hits the road next weekend, traveling to Brown and Yale. The game against the Bears is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 18.
