HANOVER, N.H. -- Senior Mike Lang (Chicago, Ill.) scored 16 points, leading three other Dartmouth players in double figures, as the Big Green held on for a 66-61 win over UC Davis Friday night.
The Big Green, now 1-1, led by as much as nine points, 54-45, with 8:52 to play in the second half and then held on down the stretch when the Aggies closed to one, 60-59, with two minutes to go.
Holding on to a two-point cushion, 63-61, Dartmouth junior Leon Pattman (Memphis, Tenn.) made a pair of free throws for a 65-61 lead with 17 seconds left before Lang added another with two ticks left to account for all the scoring.
Pattman had 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Big Green. Sophomore Chuck Flynn (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 12 points and five boards, as sophomore Michael Giovacchini (Salt Lake City, Utah) scored 10 points.
For UC Davis, Vince Oliver had a game-high 27 points.
Dartmouth had only seven turnovers for the game, and held a 30-28 rebounding advantage.
"Defensively, we turned up the intensity in the second half," said second-year Dartmouth head coach Terry Dunn. "We didn't shoot the ball as well in the second half as we did in the first ten minutes or so, but we made the free throws down the stretch and found a way to win."
The Big Green returns to action on Tuesday, November 29, traveling to Colgate.
