NEW YORK, N.Y. - Dartmouth's men's basketball team fell to Hofstra this afternoon at Madison Square Garden, 74-59. The Big Green received 14 points from senior Calvin Arnold, but it wasn't enough as the Pride ran past Dartmouth.
Antoine Agudio scored 19 of his game-high 24 points in the opening 20 minutes, including 11 in first five minutes as the Pride broke out to a 15-2 lead over the Big Green. Arnold (Sebastopol, Calif.) finally broke the streak by scoring Dartmouth's next nine points over the following four minutes to make it a 22-11 game. The Pride continued to extend its lead heading into the break, holding a 41-24 advantage at the half.
The second half saw the Big Green continue to struggle, especially on the boards where the Pride held a 43-28 advantage in the game. Hofstra (6-2) extended its lead to as much as 27 points with nine minutes to play. Dartmouth made one last run, cutting the deficit to 11, 70-59, on three-pointers by junior Leon Pattman (Memphis, Tenn.) and senior Mike Lang (Chicago, Ill.). Hofstra then scored the final four points to close out the game.
Arnold finished with 14 points to lead the Big Green while Pattman had 11. Both teams shot the ball well, with the Big Green shooting 40 percent (22/55) while the Pride finished with 44.6 percent shooting on 25-of-56 from the field.
Dartmouth (1-4) returns to action Monday when it travels to Quinnipiac for a non-conference contest with the Bobcats. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
