HANOVER. N.H. - Dartmouth's Caroline Ethier (Matagami, Que.) scored a first period goal to tie the game, but the No. 2 Wildcats of New Hampshire pulled away in the final 40 minutes, taking a 4-1 decision in a women's hockey game played on New Year's Day.
After UNH's Jennifer Hitchcock opened the scoring at the midway point of the first, Ethier came back five minutes later to tie the contest at 1-1.
But the Wildcats got what proved to be the gamewinner at 10:21 of the second when Amy McLaughlin scored. New Hampshire picked up insurance goals in the third period when Shannon Clement made it 3-1 at the 17:40 mark and Lindsay Hansen's power play goal pushed it to 4-1 with 9:33 to play.
In the nets, Dartmouth's Kate Lane (Wingham, Ont.) had a busy afternoon, making a career-high 43 saves. At the other end, Melissa Bourdon had 19 stops for New Hampshire.
The Wildcats improved to 13-2 with the victory. Dartmouth is 5-7 on the year and returns to action on January 7-8, traveling to Cornell and Colgate.
