No. 10 Dartmouth Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 17-3 Victory over Albany
March 10, 2005
HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth senior Katieanne Christian (Agawam, Mass.) had three goals and two assists as the Big Green women's lacrosse team rolled to a 17-3 victory over Albany on Thursday.
For Dartmouth, freshman Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Casey Hazel (Reisterstown, Md.) scored in the first 55 seconds of the game, setting the tone.
The Big Green raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first 20 minutes as Hazel scored all three of her goals in that stretch. Albany's Kate Fontana got the Great Danes on the board with 4:14 left until the break. With second seconds left, Dartmouth's Whitney Douthett scored her second of the game to push the Big Green lead back to 9-1.
Albany's Courtney Hill made it 9-2 with 44 seconds gone in the second half, before Dartmouth scored seven unanswered goals for a 16-2 lead with 13:53 on the clock. Christian completed her hat trick for the Big Green while Barry potted two more markers.
The Big Green improved to 2-0 on the year, while the Great Danes, in their sixth year as a Division 1 program, slipped to 1-4.
"It was a great opportunity for us as a team to get better than our last game," said Dartmouth head coach Amy Patton, now in her 13th season. "Our first half was kind of inconsistent, and we showed much more discipline in the second half. Our players off the bench did a very nice job."
Junior Devon Wills (Denver, Colo.) made four saves for Dartmouth, playing the opening 40 minutes, before junior Kelly Roy (Sykesville, Md.) came on to make two stops. For Albany, Jen Daly had 12 saves.
In addition to Christian with five points, Hazel paced Dartmouth with three goals and one assist. Barry had three goals, while junior Annie Leibovitz (Boulder, Colo.) and sophomore Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) each had two goals and one assist.
The Big Green also had markers from sophomore Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.), junior Kristen Zimmer (Alexandria, Va.), sophomore Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and senior Leah Skypeck (Longmeadow, Mass.).
Dartmouth outshot Albany, 34-11, and had the edge in ground balls, 45-25.
Dartmouth breaks for finals for the winter term, resuming action on Saturday, March 19 with a home game against No. 7 Maryland.
