HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth's Johnathan Ball (Memphis, Tenn.), a member of the Big Green men's basketball team, has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division 1 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In this role, he is the sole representative from the eight-member Ivy League conference.
Ball, who just completed his freshman year, begins his appointment immediately. He'll continue on the committee through September 1, 2006, when he is eligible for reappointment.
Ball appeared in all 27 games for the Big Green, starting 14. He averaged 5.0 ppg and 3.7 rpg, with career highs of 12 points at Cornell and nine rebounds vs. New Hampshire.
The Division 1 national SAAC consists of one student-athlete from each of the 31 Division 1 conferences. Members are selected by the Division 1 Management Council from a pool of three nominees from each of the represented conferences.
The SAAC committees for each of three divisions is charged with:
* Generating a student-athlete voice within the NCAA structure. * Soliciting student-athlete response to proposed NCAA legislation. * Recommending potential NCAA legislation. * Reviewing, reacting and commenting to the governance structure on legislation, activities and subjects of interest. * Actively participating in the administrative process of athletics programs and the NCAA. * Promoting a positive student-athlete image.
Ball's first meeting will be July 13-17 in Orange County, California.
