CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Dartmouth's women's hockey team fell to No. 9 Harvard tonight, 4-1. Sophomore Carrie Thompson scored the lone goal for the Big Green, which was seeking just its third conference win of the season in Cambridge.
Jenny Brine had a hat trick for the Crimson, with all three goals coming in the final 40 minutes of play. After a scoreless first period, she tallied her first of the night just 35 seconds into the second frame. Harvard (8-5-2, 5-2-2 ECACHL) outshot the Big Green 20-11 through the first two periods, but senior netminder Kate Lane (Wingham, Ont.) made 19 saves to keep the game within one.
Brine added two more goals in the third to put the game away. Her first came while the Crimson was on the power play at 7:35 of the frame. She completed the hat trick at 9:19 while the teams were skating 4-on-4.
Thompson (Shorewood, Minn.) got Dartmouth on the board at 15:25 with her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Freshman Marley McMillan earned her first collegiate point with an assist on the play. Harvard added an empty-netter to provide the final margin of victory.
Lane finished the game with a solid 28 saves while Ali Boe made 16 for the Crimson. Dartmouth finished the game 0-for-4 with the extra skater, while Harvard went 2-for-6 on the power play.
Dartmouth (5-6-0, 2-5-0 ECACHL) is now off for the next two and a half weeks, returning to action in 2006 on New Year's Day. The squad rings in the new year by hosting No. 2 New Hampshire at Thompson Arena. Gametime is set for 2 p.m.
