HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth's women's hockey team lost a heartbreaker to Yale this evening, falling to the Bulldogs, 1-0, on a first period goal by Danielle Kozlowski. The loss broke the Big Green's 41-game winning streak over the Elis, and Dartmouth now holds a 55-4-1 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to January 27, 1978.
The Big Green came out firing, outshooting the Bulldogs, 16-4, in the first period. But it was the Elis who lit the lamp, as Kozlowski snuck the puck through senior Kate Lane's (Wingham, Ont.) pads at the 15:32 mark of the stanza.
The game evened up over the last 40 minutes, with Dartmouth being outshot, 19-17, in that span. The Big Green had numerous opportunities to knot the game, but several misfires and strong goaltending by Sarah Love kept the home team at bay.
Both teams finished the game 0-2 on the power play. Lane made 22 saves for the Big Green, while Love stopped all 33 for the Bulldogs, who improved to 7-10-4 overall, 4-5-3 in the ECAC Hockey League.
Dartmouth (9-9-2, 6-6-1 ECACHL) is back in action tomorrow when it hosts Brown as part of the College's celebration of National Girls and Women's Sports Day. Gametime is set for 4 p.m.
