HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth's women's hockey team watched a 3-0 lead evaporate and was forced to settle for a tie as Brown scored three unanswered goals in the third period to earn the point, 3-3. Freshman Maggie Kennedy scored a pair of power play goals for the Big Green, and junior Meredith Batcheller dished out a pair of helpers this afternoon.
The Big Green struck early and often in the first period. On its first power play of the game, Batcheller (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) took a shot from the point that was saved by Brown's O'Hara Shipe, but the rebound went straight to Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.). She fired the puck into the open net to give Dartmouth the early lead, 1-0, at the 5:57 mark of the period.
Just over five minutes later, freshman Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) scored her fourth of the season off a feed from junior Caroline Ethier (Matagami, Que.) to give the Big Green a 2-0 lead. Just 1:09 later, Kennedy notched her second of the game when she found the puck on her stick after a scramble in front of the net. The goal chased Shipe, who gave up the three goals on just nine shots.
After a scoreless second period, Brown began its comeback with a power play tally by Keaton Zucker at 5:49 of the period. Dartmouth nearly extended its lead shortly after with a flurry of its own, but netminder Nicole Stock made two sprawling saves and senior Danielle Grundy (Kelowna, B.C.) sent a third shot off the left post.
Brown (11-9-4, 8-3-3 ECACHL) cut the lead to one when Kathryn Moos sent a pass towards the net that deflected off a Big Green defender and right to Margaret Ramsay, who put it into the wide open net. The Bears then tied it up late to earn the point. With Stock pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Hayley Moore sent a shot on net that was stopped by freshman Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.), but on the ensuing scrum in front of the net the puck snuck its way over the line. Moore was credited with the goal.
In overtime Dartmouth outshot the Bears 6-1 despite being shorthanded for the final 1:55 of the frame. For the game, Clemis made 23 saves while Stock stopped all 24 she faced in relief of Shipe. Dartmouth ended up 2-5 on the power play while Brown was 1-5 with the extra skater.
Dartmouth (9-9-3, 6-6-2 ECACHL) hits the road next weekend, traveling to Quinnipiac and Princeton with just three weeks left in the regular season.
