HANOVER, N.H. – After coming off its first win of the season, the Big Green football team will play host to Harvard on Saturday at Memorial Field.
The Big Green traveled to Columbia last week and picked up the first win of the season in an overwhelming, 20-7 victory. Senior quarterback
Mike Fritz (Houston, Texas) led both teams in rushing as he tucked the ball away 14 times, gaining 121 yards. Fritz also went 14-for-21 in the air for 133 yards.
The Big Green's new power-back,
Hudson Smythe (Menlo Park, Calif.) racked up both of the team's touchdowns as he ran for 48 yards on 20 carries.
“He continues to improve and produce for us,” said head coach
Buddy Teevens. “As a bigger back, he's able to move the pile a little bit down around the goal line. He runs hard and he runs low, so it's hard for people to get a hold of him.”
The Crimson, who was ranked No. 15 in the nation and undefeated until last week's downfall to Princeton, will come in to Hanover carrying a 5-1 record. Leading the way for Harvard is quarterback Liam O'Hagan who rushed for 90 yards and passed for another 168 in the loss.
“They've got him (O'Hagan) back and he's a very talented player,” Teevens said. “He had to knock the rust of his pipes last week, but I'm sure he'll play better against us this week and so on in the season as he takes more snaps.”
Since their first matchup, back in 1882, the Crimson has won 59 of the 109 contests. With Teevens at the helm, the Big Green is 2-3-1, and hasn't defeated Harvard at home since 1993.
Saturday's game can be heard live in Hanover on radio stations WDCR-AM (1340) and WFRD-FM (99.3) with Bob Lipman handling play-by-play and Wayne Young doing color commentary, or via the internet at www.DartmouthSports.com.
