Poughkeepsie, N.Y. ?Eleven different players scored for a hot-shooting Marist squad in a 77-41 win over the Dartmouth women's basketball team. The Big Green out-rebounded the Red Foxes 41-40, but was plagued by 21 turnovers. Dartmouth dropped to 0-3 on the season while Marist improved to 2-2.
The opening minutes of the game were close, with Marist up just 9-8 following a conventional three-point play by Fatima Kamara (Carrollton, Texas) at 14:33. Marist soon turned to its bench for energy as freshman Rachele Fitz hit a jumper at 14:10 to start a 15-2 run during the next four minutes. Junior guard Kristen Craft (Marshalltown, Iowa) hit a pull-up jumper at 9:21 to stop the run with Marist up 26-12.
The Red Foxes continued to pour it on offensively and Big Green was unable to catch up. Marist extended its lead to 42-16 at 3:42 after the first of three triples by Courtney Kolesar. Dartmouth would score just three more point in the half, giving Marist a 48-19 advantage at the break,
Both teams started slowly in the second half, with the first field goal not coming until 17:24, for Marist. Dartmouth was held scoreless until 14:23, when Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) hit a jumper to take it to 59-21. The game was out of reach for the Big Green, who continued to fight offensively despite the deficit.
Senior guard Ashley Taylor (Cookeville, Tenn.) stepped it up late, getting to the free-throw line five times in the last 11 minutes, and going 8-10. The captain scored 10 of Dartmouth's final 16 points, as the game closed on a 16-15 run for the Big Green.
Dartmouth shot just 23.5 percent from the field for the contest. Taylor led the squad with 14 points while Schram tallied seven points and two steals.
All of Marist's 13 players saw action in the game, with Fitz leading the way with 16 points. Her team shot 42.6 percent from the field.
The Big Green will be back in action on Sunday when it heads to Quinnipiac for a 12:00 p.m. start.
