HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team (5-3-1, 4-3-1) gave up a two-goal lead in the second period to the visiting Princeton Tigers (1-7-1, 1-5-1) enroute to a 3-3 tie on Friday in Thompson Arena. Freshman T.J. Galiardi (Calgary, Alta.) notched his first assists of the season as well as his first multiple-point game.
The Big Green jumped on the board with two goals in the first period. Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) potted the first strike at 12:58 after being set up by linemates Galiardi and David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.). Jones from Galiardi and John Gibson (Okotoks, Alta.) gave Dartmouth a two-goal lead with just :5 seconds left in the first.
The Tigers got one back early in the second stanza when Darroll Powe connected with Lee Jubinville. Dan Shribman (Swampscott, Mass.) and Rob Pritchard (Burnaby, B.C.) had the helpers on Jon Grecu's (Calgary, Alta.) goal at 5:04. A shot by Shribman on net allowed Grecu to get the rebound for the junior's third goal of the season and Dartmouth's final of the game.
Princeton was not without its chances in the second frame as the Tigers outshot the Big Green, 14-4. Dartmouth's netminder Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) made some big saves including a kick save as Princeton had a wide-open net to shoot at.
The Tigers put the final tally on the board at 9:16 in the third period when Max Cousins from Brett Wilson and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller allowed Princeton to tie the contest at 3-3.
Both teams had several chances in overtime. Princeton had what was seemingly the game winner but the goal was waved off as the net had come off its moorings. Both teams were unable to score a power play goal as the Tigers went 0-6 and Dartmouth was 0-2. Princeton finished with 28 shots to Dartmouth's 19.
The Big Green Green will be back in action tomorrow night in a 7:00 pm ECACHL tilt against Quinnipiac.
