Dartmouth Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight
Boxscore
HANOVER, N.H. - Leon Pattman (Memphis, Tenn.) made four straight free throws in the final 19 seconds, giving Dartmouth a dramatic 56-53 victory over Quinnipiac in men's basketball action Monday night.
In front of a regional television audience, the Big Green won its third straight game, improving to 3-6 on the season. The Bobcats fell to 2-7.
Pattman, who had a game-high 19 points, was fouled with 19 seconds left. He made both free throws, taking Dartmouth from a 53-52 deficit to a 54-53 lead.
Quinnipiac didn't connect on its trip down the court, and Pattman was fouled on the inbounds play. The senior iced the game with two seconds remaining, connecting on two more free throws, before the Bobcats' desperation 3-pointer was off the mark.
The game started ominously for the Big Green who fell behind, 17-4, at the midway point of the first half. Dartmouth mustered only 25.9 percent from the floor and went to the locker room trailing, 30-22.
Dartmouth started the second half with a 9-0 run and took its first lead of the game, 31-30, on a DeVon Mosley (Mesquite, Texas) jumper with 16:07 on the clock.
Quinnipiac regained the advantage and held its biggest lead, 45-38, with 9:13 remaining on a Chris Wehye 3-pointer.
The Big Green answered with an 11-4 run and tied the game, 49-49, on a Pattman trey at the 3:05 mark.
It was back-and-forth in the final 1:43. Mosley connected on a 3-pointer to make it 52-49, before Adam Gonzalez had a conventional 3-point play for only the second tie of the game.
After Wehye made one-of-two free throws for a 53-52 Quinnipiac lead, Pattman finished up the game at the free throw line. On the night, he was eight-for-eight. In last Thursday's 71-50 victory over Stony Brook, he was perfect in 10 attempts.
Pattman added seven rebounds to the Big Green cause while Mosley tallied 13 points.
The Big Green is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Vermont for a 7 pm tip.
