HANOVER, N.H. - Despite 13 points and six rebounds from junior Fatima Kamara (Carrollton, Texas), the Dartmouth women's basketball team (17-6) dropped a 62-49 decision to Princeton on Friday night at Leede Arena. With the loss, the Tigers (17-6) move into a second place tie in the Ivy League standings with the Big Green at 8-2. Brown remains in first place at 10-1.
Dartmouth spotted Princeton to an early 15-1 lead, but managed to knot the score at 24-24 at the half. Sophomore Sydney Scott (Houston, Texas) had 10 of her 12 points in the period to lead the Dartmouth comeback.
The Tigers clung to a slim 34-32 advantage with 11:17 left after Big Green junior Ashley Taylor (Cookeville, Tenn.) converted one of two free throws. Princeton's run over the next seven minutes put the game away. The Tigers went on a 19-4 spurt and opened up a 53-36 lead with 4:50 left after a layup by Meagan Cowher. She finished with 17 points and 10 boards to lead the Tigers.
Dartmouth cut the gap to 11 points with 2:05 remaining, but could get no closer the rest of the way.
The Big Green, which is ranked first in the country in three-point field goal percentage, was limited to just 14.3 percent accuracy from behind the arc (1-of-7). The loss also snaps Dartmouth's 11-game Ivy home win streak. The Big Green had not lost an Ivy home game this season or last season and its last Ancient Eight defeat at Leede Arena was March 9, 2004, against Harvard.
The Big Green will be in action again on Saturday, February 25, when it hosts Penn. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
