HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Jeannie Cullen scored 15 points to lead the Dartmouth women's basketball team to a 67-45 victory over Penn on Saturday night at Leede Arena. Cullen hit four three-pointers and moved into second place in Ivy League history with 264 career treys. The Big Green improves to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in the Ivy League, while Penn drops to 4-20 and 2-9 in the conference.
The Big Green jumped out to an early 14-3 lead at the 13:37 mark behind three early Cullen three-pointers. Dartmouth extended the advantage to 18 points after junior Ashley Taylor (Cookeville, Tenn.) buried a triple to make it 28-10 at the 6:13 mark. Dartmouth led by 19 points on two occasions and held a 35-19 advantage at the half. The Big Green shot 71.4 percent from behind the arc in the period, hitting five of seven shots. Penn, meanwhile, connected on just three of 10 attempts from long distance.
In the second period, Penn opened with a 5-0 run to climb within 11 points, but it got no closer the rest of the way. With 12:08 remaining and the lead still at 11 points, Dartmouth went on an 8-0 run to extend to a 49-30 advantage. The Big Green built the margin to as many as 25 points after freshman Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) hit two free throws in the final minute. For the game, Dartmouth shot 50.0 percent from the field, while limiting Penn to 36.0 percent accuracy.
Senior Angie Soriaga (College Station, Texas) chipped in 10 points and six assists and senior Krista Perry (Boise, Idaho) pulled down nine rebounds and added eight points in the winning effort. Penn was led by Monica Naltner who had 12 points.
The Big Green will be in action again on Friday, March 3, when it travels to Columbia. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
