HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's hockey team defeated St. Lawrence, 3-0, tonight in Thompson Arena. With the win the Big Green will earn a share of the ECAC Hockey League title with Colgate but Dartmouth will get the no. 1 seed in the ECACHL tournament as they win the tiebreaker with the Raiders. The title is the first for Dartmouth and head coach Bob Gaudet.
The two teams went into the first break scoreless and it was Dartmouth that broke through first as senior Jarrett Sampson (Prince Albert, Sask.) scored 7:10 into the second stanza. A feed from Eric Przepiorka (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) gave Sampson his fifth goal of the season.
In the final frame of the night, with just :10 seconds elapsed, Tanner Glass (Craven, Sask.) potted a strike with assists going to David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Ben Lovejoy (Orford, N.H.).
Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) scored the final goal of the night at 18:46 with an empty net strike. Przepiorka picked up the helper and with that assist it gave the senior his 100th point at Dartmouth. He is just the 33rd player in 100 years of Dartmouth history to get his 100th point.
In net for the Big Green, Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) made 24 saves earning his second shutout of the season. Devine is now 15-7-2 overall and 13-4-2 in the ECACHL. Justin Pesony and John Hallas combined for 27 saves for the Saints as both netminders gave up one goal apiece.
The Big Green will now have a first-round bye into the ECACHL playoffs that begin next weekend.
