HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Tanner Glass (Craven, Sask.) scored two goals and added two assists, leading the Dartmouth men's hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Yale, in ECACHL quarterfinal action on Friday night. The four-point effort was a career-best for Glass.
The win gave the Big Green a 1-0 lead in the best of three series, which continues Saturday at 7 p.m. in Dartmouth's Thompson Arena. If necessary, the third game will be held on Sunday, also at 7 o'clock in Thompson. Tickets are still available by calling the Dartmouth ticket office at (603) 646-2466 or by stopping by the ticket office in the Berry Sports Center.
Dartmouth started the scoring off with a shot from Ben Lovejoy (Orford, N.H.) that was tipped in by Glass. Then Sean Offers (St. Albert, Alta.) put the Big Green up by two when he fired a shot on Bulldog netminder Alec Richards. Richards reached up to grab the puck and ended up losing it behind him. Mike Ouellette (Kamloops, B.C.) and Glass got the assists.
Dartmouth (17-11-2) pushed the lead to 3-0 when freshman John Gibson (Okotoks, Alta.) connected with Connor Shields (Edmonton, Alta.) off the faceoff scoring at 1:59. Glass collected one of two Dartmouth power play tallies at the 8:09 mark for a 4-0 lead. Grant Lewis (Upper St. Clair, Pa.) and Offers set up Glass on a back door play to give the junior his tenth goal of the season.
Just 1:20 later, Yale (10-19-3) ruined Dartmouth goalie Mike Devine's (Orchard Park, N.Y.) bid for a shutout on David Meckler's goal. Nate Jackson and Zach Meyer assisted.
With the clock winding down in the second 20 minutes the Big Green's Ouellette accounted for all the scoring on a power play goal with 25 seconds left in the frame. David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Glass assisted.
Along with that goal, Ouellette, the senior captain, had two assists on the night.
In the nets, Devine had 35 saves for the Big Green, while Yale's Alec Richards made 20 saves in the first two periods, before Josh Gartner stopped five shots in the third.
"This Yale team is very good," said Dartmouth head coach Bob Gaude. "They keep coming at you and they had some very good chances. I give my guys credit for staying with it and pressuring them all night long."
