HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth softball had four players named to All-Ivy teams as announced by the league today. Freshman Katie Chifcian (Fullerton, Calif.) was named first team while Kelly Fry (Marietta, Ga.), Alicia Petryk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) were selected honorable mention. All-Ivy teams are voted on the league's eight head coaches. The award is the third for Fry and the second for Petryk while Chifcian and Trudeau earn the first honors of their careers.
Chifcian is the first freshman since Christine Quattrocchi was given first team honors in 2000 and is just the eighth first teamer in the 10 years of Dartmouth softball. Chifcian led the team in batting with a .298 average including hitting .367 in league games. She was tops on the team with 31 hits and was second with seven doubles. Chifcian averaged 1.29 hits per game in league games and was in the top-10 in batting average.
Fry was Honorable Mention All-Ivy as a freshman and second team as a sophomore. The junior was recently named a second team CoSIDA District I Academic All-America. Fry played mainly at the catcher position but spent some time at third base this season for the Big Green. She finished the year second on the team in batting average but led in slugging percentage. She belted a team-high eight doubles in 2006 and recorded the second highest fielding percentage on the team.
Petryk picked up honorable mention honors after being named Second Team All-Ivy as a freshman. She was seventh in the league in batting with a .372 average. The senior was also top-10 in Ivy stats for hits, RBIs, total bases, on base and slugging percentage. She finished the season third on the team with a .258 batting average.
Freshman pitcher Stephanie Trudeau led the Big Green in ERA (3.85) with 18 appearances made in 2006. She was fourth in the league in strikeouts with 44 along with 82 for the season. Trudeau led the league in innings pitched with 58 and fourth in games started and wins. The 82 strikeouts for the rookie is sixth best in Dartmouth history.
The Big Green finished third in the Ivy League with a 7-7 record. It is the team's highest finish since 2001-02 and it was just the third time in school history the team was .500 or better in league games.
