HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's soccer team (1-0-1) earned a 0-0 tie with in-state rival, UNH (2-0-1), in the second day of the adidas/Hypertherm Soccer Classic held at Chase Field. The Big Green and the Wildcats both had a win and a tie in the two-day tournament. UNH's keeper Brian Levey was named the Most Valuable Goalie while Dartmouth's Ale Frischeisen (Garden City, N.Y.) was chosen Most Valuable Defender. Most Valuable Offensive Player went to Binghamton's Cody Germain after scoring two goals and an assist in the Bearcats win over Long Island.
The two teams played to a scoreless overtime tie as both schools had chances late in the game. The end of the first half had UNH dominating play as the Wildcats had nine shots to Dartmouth's four and had five corner kicks to two. The Big Green poured it on in the second stanza, outshooting UNH, 6-2. Dartmouth ended the game with a 15-13 shot advantage.
Dartmouth's best chance to score the game winner came with :12 left regulation when Craig Henderson (Wellington, New Zealand) had a free kick that just knicked the left side of the post. UNH came back with its own chance late in the second overtime with a header that careemed off the cross bar.
Levey finished with six saves for the Wildcats while the Big Green's Rowan Anders (Qualicum Beach, B.C.) recorded his second shutout in as many games, with five saves.
Dartmouth will be back in action next weekend traveling to New Haven, Conn. to participate in the Yale Classic.
