NEW HAVEN, CONN. -- The Big Green played to a scoreless tie with Colgate Friday night in the first contest of the Yale Classic being played in New Haven, Conn.
Neither team could find the back of the net Friday night as both Colgate and Dartmouth played competitive defense. Dartmouth keeper Rowan Anders (Qualicum Beach, B.C.) made just four saves in the 110 minutes of play while Colgate's David Cappuccio wasn't forced to make any.
The Big Green found their openings and tried to pressure their opposition taking 13 shots, but none found the cage. The Raiders, while taking only one shot in the overtime periods, finished with 11. Dartmouth also had five corner kick opportunities, to the Raiders two.
The lack of offense produced strong physical play by both teams, which led to work for officials. Yellow cards were issued to Dartmouth's Nick Christman (Falmouth, Mass.), Lucas Richardson (Denver, Colo.) and Brian Lappas (Hillsborough, N.C.) in the later parts of the game. Colgate's Mike Hensler and William Batson each drew a yellow as well.
The Big Green now moves to 1-0-2 overall, while the Raiders advance to 2-0-2. Dartmouth will be in action in their final game of the Yale Classic on Sunday, Sept. 10, as they take on George Mason. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
