NEW HAVEN, CONN, -- The Dartmouth men's soccer team fell to George Mason today in a defensive 1-0 loss in the final game of the Yale Classic being played in New Haven, Conn.
The games lone goal came in the 33rd minute of play as George Mason's Dan Ames was taking down in the box, giving the Patriots a penalty kick. Junior Adam Lobene struck the ball into the lower left corner past Dartmouth's net minder Rowan Anders (Qualicum Beach, B.C.). Anders finished the contest making only two saves.
Dartmouth had two chances to tie in the later part of the second half as Nick Christman (Falmouth, Mass.), who lead the team in shots on the day with four, rifled a direct kick oppurtunity on net, but Patriots goalkeeper Sean Kelley was there to make the stop. The Big Green were also given a corner kick in the 86th mintue, but again it was Kelley who shot out of the net to intercept the attempt. Dartmouth was given eight corner kick opportunities, while the Patriots were issued three. The Big Green also out shot George Mason 10-6 on the day.
With the loss the Big Green drop to 1-1-2, while George Mason advances to 3-2-0. Dartmouth will be in action again on Friday, Sept. 15, as they travel to Berkeley, Calif. to participate in the adidas Cal Legacy Classic. The Big Green will face host California on Friday, then Stanford on Sunday.
