BERKELEY, Calif. -- Cal scored in the 62nd minute to give the 20th-ranked California Golden Bears a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth on the first day of the adidas Cal Legacy Classic.
California midfielder Nick Hatzke gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, knocking in a cross from Hector Jimenez.
The Big Green fought back in the second half as junior Mike Ordonez (Coral Gables, Fla.) knocked in a ball given from freshman Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zealand) to even up the score at one a piece.
Just two minutes later, however, the Golden Bears struck again as Cal midfielder Luke Sassano played a long ball to Javier Ayala-Hil which he put past Big Green net minder Rowan Anders (Qualicum Beach, B.C.).
With this game the Big Green fall to 1-2-2 overall, while Cal increases to 4-2-1. The Dartmouth men will play their second match of the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 17, when they take on Stanford at 12:00 p.m.
