COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Junior Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) had 19 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, leading the Dartmouth men's basketball team to a 98-87 victory over VMI Saturday night.
Playing in the consolation game of the Air Force Classic, the Big Green evened its record at 1-1 on the young season as five Dartmouth players scored in double figures.
The matchup was even in the first seven minutes with the score tied, 15-15, with 12:52 on the clock.
But Dartmouth took control of the game in the next five minutes. Junior Marlon Sanders (Cleveland, Ohio) had a steal and a layup, giving the Big Green a 32-23 lead and capping a 17-8 run. Dartmouth never looked back after that and held a 45-39 advantage at the break.
For Dartmouth, junior DeVon Mosley (Mesquite, Texas) led all scorers with a career-high 23 points. Senior Michael Giovacchini (Salt Lake City, Utah) and sophomore Elgin Fitzgerald (Colorado Springs, Colo.) both contributed 11, and sophomore Robbie Pride (Denver, Colo.) had 10 as Dartmouth shot 52.1 percent for the game. Giovacchini also had a personal best eight assists.
The Big Green had a 50-37 advantage in rebounding. Barnett had the fifth double-double of his career.
VMI had five players in double figures, led by Reggie Williams with 19.
Dartmouth returns to Hanover for the first home game of the season, hosting James Madison on Saturday, November 17 at 7 p.m.
