HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth football team will close out the 2007 season as the Big Green hosts Princeton Saturday at Memorial Field for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
Last Saturday against Brown, the Big Green jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, but Brown outscored Dartmouth, 21-0, in the second quarter and defeated the Big Green, 56-35. Brown racked up 619 total yards, including 444 through the air. Brown's Bobby Sewall single-handedly beat Dartmouth with 144 yards on the ground and four touchdowns, including a 44-yard scoring scamper in the fourth quarter. "It was a scoring contest," said Teevens. "We were unable to stop Brown's offense and Sewall had an outstanding day."
For the second consecutive week, Dartmouth senior quarterback
Tom Bennewitz (Weston, Conn.) threw for more than 300 yards. Bennewitz was 28-of-38 for 312 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. "Tom threw for a lot of yards in the second half, but we turned the ball over too many times," said Teevens. Junior
Philip Galligan (Moraga, Calif.) hauled in seven catches for 98 yards and senior
Brian Evans (Fairfield, Texas) had 55 yards and a touchdown.
Senior
Milan Williams (Mobile, Ala.) gained 97 yards on the ground with a touchdown, while junior
Nate Servis (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a 2-yard receiving score and
Ryan Mahoney (Nahant, Mass.) added a 9-yard touchdown run.
Defensively, senior captain
Justin Cottrell (Somers Point, N.J.) had 17 total tackles, including nine solo stops. The Big Green defense gave up a season-high 619 yards and could only force one turnover with freshman
Charles Bay (Marietta, Ga.) recovering a fumble.
Up next for the Big Green is Princeton. The Tigers are led by their quarterback Bill Foran, who averages more than 200 yards a game in total offense. In eight games this season, Foran has a team-high 395 yards on the ground, averaging 49 yards per contest. He also has thrown for five touchdowns and run for another five. "Princeton has a very diverse offense with running the option, and containing their attack will be a challenge for us." said Teevens.
Brendan Circle is the team leader in receiving with 475 total yards. Along with Foran, running back Rob Toresco has run for 310 yards and a touchdown. Toresco also has racked up 354 yards receiving and two touchdowns with a team-high 36 receptions.
On defense, Tim Boardman leads the Tigers with 79 total tackles, including 4.5 for a loss. John Callahan is tops in sacks with three on the season, while Kevin Kelleher and Dan Kopolovich have a team-high two interceptions. Opponents have outscored Princeton, 251-184, but the defense is only giving up 28 more yards to the opponents than Princeton is gaining on offense.
"We need a good team effort," said Teevens. "It's the final game for the seniors and we need to take advantage. Offensively, taking care of the ball is a priority with long possessions to keep them off the field."
The game will be aired regionally on WFRD (99 Rock), the "Official Voice of Dartmouth Sports," with play-by-play announcer Bob Lipman and former football captain Wayne Young '72 providing the commentary.
