HANOVER, N.H. - The 3-3 Dartmouth men's basketball team will put a two-game winning streak on the line when it visits 0-6 Stony Brook Saturday at 2 p.m.
Although the Seawolves are still in search of their first win, they are coming off a strong showing against Kentucky in which they were within 43-37 with less than seven minutes remaining. The Wildcats held on for a 62-52 win in Lexington, Ky. Guard Mitchell Beauford led Stony Brook against Kentucky with a game-high 20 points. Guard Ricky Lucas tops the Seawolves in scoring with 10.3 points per game with Beauford next at 10.0.
Dartmouth comes into the game at .500 after a thrilling, 76-75, win over Vermont, Stony Brook's America East rival. Sophomore guard Robby Pride's layup with seven seconds remaining capped a comeback that saw the Big Green erase an eight-point deficit with 5:52 remaining. The win was Dartmouth's first over Vermont since 1998.
Forward Alex Barnett paced the attack against the Catamounts with 25 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks before fouling out. Guard DeVon Mosley added 17 points.
Barnett leads Dartmouth with 18.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while Mosley is at 15.2 points per game.
Dartmouth and Stony Brook have met three times with the America East team holding a 2-1 edge. The Seawolves won the first meeting in 2003 by a 56-53 count and added another three-point victory in January of 2006, 51-48. The Big Green won the most recent contest on Dec. 14, of last year, 71-50.
After Stony Brook, Dartmouth will have just one day off before UC Davis visits Leede Arena for a 7 p.m., tipoff Monday. The Big Green will then take off for exams before returning to action for a Dec. 15 visit by the Eagles of New Hampshire's Daniel Webster College.
