HANOVER, N.H. - Senior tight end
Brett Lowe (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and junior linebacker
Andrew Dete (Marietta, Ga.) were both selected to the Tenth Annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star team at the FCS Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions were eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.
"It's an honor for the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association to annually award an academic all-star team in FCS football," said Jim Murphy, chair of the Football Championship Subdivision Academic All-Star Team Selection Committee and athletics director at Davidson College. "These outstanding individuals represent the true meaning of the word student-athlete. We are proud of their accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field."
Lowe and Dete were two of 51 players selected to the team and two of only four representatives from the Ivy League.
In his final season with the Big Green, Lowe broke out with career-highs in receptions and yards. He was fourth on the team with 24 receptions and third with 313 yards, to go along with two touchdowns. Lowe had a career day in his final game, hauling in 10 catches for 150 yards against Princeton on November 17. On the academic side, he currently maintains a 3.65 grade point average as a government major.
Dete, a three-year starter, was a mainstay in the middle at linebacker in all 10 games for the Big Green He had a total of 34 tackles, including a three stops for a loss and a sack. Dete currently has a 3.75 GPA, while majoring in business at Dartmouth.
