Seton Hall Tops Dartmouth in WNIT Action

South Orange, N.J. ? Ivy League Player of the Year Ashley Taylor (Cookeville, Tenn.) ended her Dartmouth career with a double-double, but it was not enough as the Big Green fell to Big East foe Seton Hall, 60-39 in the first round of the WNIT tonight. Taylor played in her 113th collegiate game, making her Dartmouth's career leader for games played, while lassmate Fatima Kamara (Carrollton, Texas) made her 112th appearance, which is tied for second.

Dartmouth came out strong, with Kristen Craft (Marshalltown, Iowa) scoring the game's first two points and Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) giving the Green a 5-4 lead at 15:19 after a strong move in the paint.

Seton Hall then kicked it into high gear, going on a 21-1 run until 3:32 when Taylor stopped the bleeding with a layup. The Pirates went on to take a 30-11 lead into the locker room.

Schram opened the second half with a big three for Dartmouth, and the Big Green got its offense going, with an early 8-4 run capped by a conventional three-point play by Taylor, to take it to 34-19 at 16:53.

The Big Green played tough for the remainder of the half, but the Pirates hit their shots as well and Dartmouth could not put together a big enough run to cut the lead. The teams played a balanced half, with Seton Hall taking a 30-28 scoring advantage for the period. Taylor hit a triple at 2:47 to end the Big Green's scoring while the Pirates went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in the closing minutes for the 60-39 win.

With 17 points, Taylor reached 502 for the season and moved into sixth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,428 points. She also added 10 rebounds and finishes with 506 for her career. Schram finished with six points while rookie Margaret Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) added eight rebounds and three points.

Noteisha Womack had 10 points and 10 boards to lead Seton Hall while Heta Korpivaara added 14 points.

The Big Green finished the season at 15-14 (9-5 Ivy) while the Pirates move to 19-11 and will play Hofstra in the second round of the WNIT on Saturday.
