Hamden, Conn. - The Dartmouth women's volleyball team defeated host Quinnipiac in three straight games on Monday night to continue the Big Green's winning ways. Dartmouth beat the Bobcats 30-17, 30-18 and 30-8. The win improves the Big Green to 3-1 while the loss dropped Quinnipiac's record to 1-8 on the season.
The Big Green's Morgan Covington (Katy, Texas) led all scorers with 10 kills, while Katie Hirsch (Austin, Texas) had a game-high 36 assists. The Bobcats were led offensively by Janelle Walz who had seven kills and Erin Overdevest had a game-high 14 digs.
Dartmouth had four players hit over .400 as Frances Samolowicz (St. Charles, Ill.) and Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) hit .462 and .421 respectively while Sandy Barbut (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Covington had a hitting percentage of .500 and .529. The Big Green hit an impressive .424 while holding the Bobcats to -.038.
The first game wasn't even close as Dartmouth never let the home team get closer than six points. The second game was a different story as the Bobcats jumped out early with the two teams trading the lead several times before Hirsch helped serve or assist her team to six straight points and the eventual victory. The third game was all Dartmouth as Quinnipiac was never closer than 3-5 early in the game.
Dartmouth will be back in action this weekend playing in the URI Invitational. The Big Green will take on Maine and Texas State on Friday before matching up with host Rhode Island on Saturday.
